Cyber War & Pakistan

World today is completely changed from the one at the time of World War-II, from the people to the way people live, from human priorities to human thinking and from daily routines to the things that are used in daily routines, since now everything is changed therefore this wave of change has also left its effects on War and the way war is fought. Today the term war and war tactics has emerged in complete new dimensions and perspective, now people are not in favor of losing physical energy and utilizing their resources for unpredictable and may be never ending conflicts which may lead to war. Not even people want to create expensive defense systems in fact they want to create such a wonderful and ideal scenario in which they can stop or even destroy their enemies far long before they can launch their attack. The only way left for this is Cyber War.

Cyber Warfare is a war act by some state or a private organization to attack to damage another state’s Network and to bypass the security of sensitive data through internet. Today internet has become an important need of a common man and apart from the availability of sensitive data internet today is being widely used to carry out routine work which includes activities like financial, social, business, communication, education, etc.

Cyber Warfare has got a tremendous advantage which is that it is not bound with any time and formal war conditions to get attacker open fire on enemy. In the case of cyber warfare when there is no war, attackers usually get indulged into cybercrime to silently effect state activities by doing Cyber-Crime which includes financial frauds, blackmailing, data stealing of small companies (mostly private), doing illegal online activities like selling drugs, banned wildlife smuggling and black money transportation, and when it is war time the preparations by cyber warriors had already been made in fact attacks has already been launched just to destroy enemy’s routine activities specially communications, financial transactions and weapon communication system. The main and ultimate purpose is to create confusion and disturbance within the enemy lines and to harass them long before attacker’s military get in position for the attack.

Pakistan despite being an underdeveloped country surrounded by multiple external and internal threats and involved on different border and internal war fronts has advanced itself very much in a very small time. Recently to tackle cyber-crime which has to be dealt with throughout the year, the government of Pakistan along with multiple concerned institutions has introduced a bill to prevent the Electronics Crimes, but this is just not enough when thousands of cyber criminals are ready with new ideas and many anti Pakistan alliances are being created every coming day. Although Pakistan has got handful of talented cyber warriors providing outstanding forensic services including computer, mobile, network and video forensics. Need of time is that Pakistani government along with the collaboration of private sector initiate activities to empower IT sector on the top of which is to put a good percentage of budget to motivate IT sector, more other actions are also needed but the main thing to do all that is to have a good and yes a powerful will.

  1. agreed! Pakistan is in good position but more steps should be taken. Better is to be in line with your competitors but best is to be ahead of them.
    Nice effort
